Epidaurus & Mycenae One Day Tour from Athens

1 star 1 star 1 star 1 star 1 star 4.8 out of 5 based on 171 reviews

Explore with this guided one full day trip from Athens to Argolis the remains of the ancient city of Mycenae a major centre of Greek civilization from 1600BC to 1100BC and a world heritage monument. Depart from our terminal for one day tour via the coastal National highway for the Corinth canal (short stop).

After the Corinth Canal, you enter the region of Argolis, land of Homer’s Golden Mycenae, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Dating back to the second century B.C., Mycenae was one of the major centers of Greek civilization and a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece.

Visit the archaeological site, home to the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon. You will see the Cyclopean Walls, the Lion’s Gate, the Royal Tombs, including Agamemnon Clytemnestra's, and the Treasury of Atreus, a magnificent 14th-century B.C. structure. Time will then be taken for a traditional Greek optional lunch  at a nearby restaurant.

Before lunch an optional stop in a pottery factory. After lunch through ARGOS proceed to Nauplia the first capital of modern Greece with its Venetian fortress of  PALAMIDI and the fortified islet of BOURTZI (short stop). Continue on to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre. The UNESCO’S world heritage listed monument is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo's son Asklepios, the healer and was the most celebrated healing center of the classical world.

Epidaurus is probably most famous for its theatre, one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings and still used today due to its amazing acoustics. The  Argolis (Mycenae - Epidaurus) day tour returns to Athens in the late afternoon.

As classicists we can't express how we feel about this journey, in other words it was excellent, breathtaking and speechless. Thank you all especially to the guide! <3

We went on the day tour of Epidaurus, Mycenae, Corinth Canal, Nafplion. Keytours picked us up and dropped us back off at our Hotel. As a tour of some of the most overwhelming sites of ancient History this could not have been bettered. Our tour guide, Gemma, was everything and more you could wish for. Her knowledge of ancient Greek History, even pre-Agammemnon (as well as her comprehensive knowledge of Greek drama) was riveting and expressed with such passion. To hear her speak with such joy and enthusiasm was undoubtedly the high point of our holiday - as well as seeing the outstanding Theatre of Epidaurus with its stunning acoustic and the small 'city' of Mycenae. I could not recommend this tour more!

“Great way to spend a day” Definitely makes more sense to go with a land tour than trying to get around to these places independently. I enjoyed the very informative sessions by the tour guide.

“excellent guide provided informative tour” Great way to see mycenae and epidaurus if your schedule only permits one day for doing so. Next time I might skip including the lunch and order off the menu.

I took four day tours from Key tours in Athens. The hotel pick up and departures were punctual and the guides were very knowledgable. The promised wifi in bus on two occasions with long bus drives though did not work. The places where they stop for lunch could be at a much better location, as these were very remote places and people like me who don't opt for lunch had nothing else to do in that one hour. If the stop is in a town area, one can go for a coffee or shopping in that one hour. Visited March 2017

Great very educative your with great driver Lucas and brilliant guide Ruly ( sorry, if I misspelled). She so passionate about Greece, so happy to answer questions! It was snow on slopes, awful wind in Mycenae, but she bravely lead us through these winter conditions. Fluently speaking Italian, French, English she practically performed 3 tours in one. Epidaurus part was so exciting too. I strongly recommend this tour!

Our greatest complaint is that we had to wait for half an hour for our bus to arrive at the arranged location. Better time management is in order. I can only imagine how bad it must be during the high tourist season! One trip was to Corinth, Epidaurus and Myceane and the other was to Sounion. Our Epidaurus trip guide, Marianna, was excellent guide with a vast knowledge of relevant facts, history and myths. My very small complaint is that sometimes the distinction between historical facts and myths was not clearly pointed out. She took us to a restaurant near Myceanae for a lunch which was rather expensive. Food was average. The half-day trip to Sounion was nice, although it started with a half hour wait for bus to arrive! The guide was nice.
