activity info

Get to know the best of Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece, with this 2 day trip from Athens. Enjoy strolling around the picturesque old town, have a coffee beside the sea viewing the impressive Bourtzi islet and visit two UNESCO'S world heritage monuments.

1st DAY: Leave Athens behind and head to the strategically Corinth canal (short stop). Continue to Mycenae and visit the archaeological site and the tomb of Agamemnon. Learn about the classical Greek culture as you walk through this impressive site. Proceed to the beautiful seaport town of Nauplia. The afternoon is free for you for a visit to the majestic Venetian fortress of Palamidi crowning the city or alternatively go for a refreshing swim. Don't miss also the opportunity to visit important landmarks such as the Old Mosque, Vouleftikon and harbor island fortress of Mpourtzi. Overnight stay in Nauplia.

2nd DAY: The next morning is at your leisure for a walk to the old city with its beautiful neoclassic houses. Meander along picturesque lanes and stepped streets; pass handsome mansions and flower-filled balconies; and discover examples of the city’s Frankish, Venetian and Ottoman periods. Around noon depart for Epidaurus and visit the ancient theatre. The UNESCO’S world heritage listed monument is reputed to be the birthplace of Apollo's son Asklepios, the healer and was the most celebrated healing center of the classical world. Epidaurus is probably most famous for its theatre, one of the best preserved classical Greek buildings and still used today due to its amazing acoustics. Your tour ends back to Athens late in the afternoon.

I recommend this tour very highly. We were picked up at our hotel then we boarded another bus. Our first stop for about 30 minutes was the Corinthian Canal. We then set for the famous site of Epidaurus. We visited the museum then the wonderful ancient theater known for its acoustics. We had time to visit gift shop and other areas of site on our own. We were are site approximately 90 minutes plus. We then set off to Nafplion where we stayed overnight at Hotel Victoria. The hotel was very nice and we had a room overlooking Palamidi castle and the quaint traditional village of Nafplio. We were given free diner at the Klima Restaurant and free breakfast at the hotel. The food at Klima Restaurant was great. The next day around 1:30 pm we were picked up at hotel by same tour guide and we had time to eat lunch (not included in package), then set off for lovely site of Mycenae. We had plenty of time to visit site and museum and tomb of Atreus. (appr. 90 minutes plus at site). We also made stop at a souvenir shop. We were back in Athens to our hotel late in the evening. The tour guide for this excursion was Maryann and she is a GEM: She is knowledgeable, considerate and kind. I have taken many tours and I wish that all tour guides are like her.

We took the 2 day tour of Mycenae & Epidauros with an overnight stop over in Nafplio. We had wanted to see these places but not rent a car & bus travel would not work. We were very pleased. Key Tours is efficient & prompt. Very well organized. The overnight stop in Naphlio was at Hotel Victoria. Small family owned with hands on management & service. They were there for any questions or needs. The room was clean good wifi & electrical outlets. We had a nice view from the room balcony that overlooked the street. We also went to the roof to take photos. Dinner & breakfast were inc in the tour. Dinner was at Kifos where we had our choice of any of the regular meals. Food was good & plentiful. Breakfast at the hotel was a complete buffet including bacon, scrambled eggs , fruit & wonderful filled pastries. Our tour guide on the second day was Athanasios. Passionate about Greece, he has a thorough knowledge of history & mythology. He is a wonderful teacher. We would recommend the 2 day tour to anyone who has the time to enjoy Nafplio, the most beautiful town in Greece.
