activity info

Get a true glimpse into Greek culture and tradition from ancient times till today’s modern living in Athens combined with all the must-see points of the city. Visit with a professional expert guide two of the most impressive museums of Athens that are not included in any other organized or private tour.

After an accurate pick up by luxury air conditioned vehicle from your Athens hotel head to Kolonaki, a wealthy, chic and upmarket district, and a fashionable meeting area. There, is located the Museum of Cycladic Art, which is dedicated to the study and promotion of ancient cultures of the Aegean, with special emphasis on Cycladic Art of the 3rd millennium BC.

Continue with a visit to the Benaki Museum. This group of collections comprises many distinct categories totalling more than 40,000 items, illustrating the character of the Greek world through a spectacular historical panorama: from antiquity and the age of Roman domination to the medieval Byzantine period; from the fall of Constantinople (1453) and the centuries of Frankish and Ottoman occupation to the outbreak of the struggle for independence in 1821; and from the formation of the modern state of Greece (1830) down to 1922, the year in which the Asia Minor disaster took place. Your private tour finishes with a drop off service back to your hotel.

I decided to do this private tour since I would like to see off the path museums in Athens. Our guide Apostolos was great, very kind and informative. First we visited Benaki museum. Benaki is a museam one should visit during his/her stay in Athens. The museam is located in the center of Athens, so it is very easily accessible. The building itseld is really impressive and there many interesting exhibitions any time one can see. The shop inside is really good. At the end, there is also a wonderful roofgarden, from where you can enjoy your drink and Athens view at the same time. Then we continue with Byzantine museum. This museum was wonderful. It traced the art of the Byzantine era from beginning to end and was facinating. Be sure to walk around behind the museum to check out the recently discovered ruins that they think are the Lyceum. I strongly recommend this private tour.
