According to mythology, it is here that the two eagles, sent out by Zeus from the ends of the universe to find the navel of the world, met. The sanctuary of Delphi, set within a most spectacular landscape, was for many centuries the most trusted oracle in the ancient world from which the spirit of Apollo gave advice on everything from domestic matters to wars. To the northwest of the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia lay the gymnasium, a place that was used for exercise and learning, the palaestra and the baths. The central, most important part of the site is the sanctuary of Apollo.The stadium of Delphi is one of the best-preserved monuments of its kind. It is situated in the highest part of the ancient city. The Museum of Delphi has also some amazing findings from the area, the most famous being the Omphalos, the statue "The Charioteer" and the two sculptures of Cleobis and Biton.

Many believe the place to have a special magic and report being moved spiritually when visiting Delphi. Ancient engravings on the stone such as 'Know Thyself' and 'Nothing in Excess' could be a lesson for all generations to come.
