From the beginning of 2010 all "Athens Sightseeing half day tour " participatns experience a new view of Propylaea of the Acropolis.  These days  the scaffolding from the Propylaea of the Acropolis is removed and  from this month the visitors are experiencing the restoration of most of the marble ceiling panels,  designed by architect Mnesikles, famous in antiquity.

 

The restoration project of the Acropolis monuments, which started from the regime change in the interdisciplinary "Committee for the Conservation of Acropolis Monuments (President Charalambos Bouras) and intensified with EU funds since 2000 and coordinator of projects," Acropolis Restoration Service 'brings results' concrete' for visitors, handing out, the preserved monuments was first completed.

 

Like the other monuments of the Acropolis, so the Propylaea States dismantled the monument to remove the oxidized, for decades, iron and cement connections from earlier reconstructions  and restored with titanium. Four columns created of the three existing at  the main building of the Propylaea.

 

Of the thousands of fragments found in the wider area of the Propylaea and specific methods and identifications resulting panels plates (supplemented with Dionysian marble), which restored the roof of the West Room of the Propylaea.

 

"Our aim is to restore the original structural function of the monument and its original dimensions," explains architect Tasos Tanoulas in charge of the construction site of the Propylaea.

 

"The dismantling of roofs in Propylaea, given the opportunity to research into the material was restored in combination with material from broken roofs, panels and beams, which was not used in an earlier response", explains Maria Ioannidou, engineer, manager the Acropolis Restoration Service.

 

Early next year, is expected to complete the repositioning of the restored 'Wingless Victory'.
